IN an attempt to expand their limited I express service facilities between Huddersfield and Llandudno, Hansons BuseS, Ltd., applied at Leeds, last Monday, to substantially increase their vehicle allowance.
Mr. T. Atkinson, for the company, said they wished to operate a maximum of 10 vehicles on journeys in July and August and two vehicles in June and September. At present only one coach was authorized for each trip. The departure time from Huddersfield was scheduled for 8 a.m and on the return journey from Llandudno for 2 p.m.
Mr. J. Hirst, traffic representative of Hansons, submitted details of their 1961 loadings and pointed out that numerous passengers had been refused seats through lack of accommodation. The application was opposed by the Yorkshire Pool of coach operators and British Railways, but Mr. Hirst said that he did not wish to criticize the facilities of these organizations.
Evidence was given by four witnesses who wished to travel with Hanson,. Whilst discussing previous journeys to the Welsh coast, they complained of the congested conditions in the coach station at Rhyl, of having to wait in long queues, of delays on the way home, and of drivers losing their way.
The chairman of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, reserved his decision.
