its Constructor range following a long series of complaints that the chassis have been cracking while carrying loads well within their legal and design weight limits.
Tipper operators throughout the UK have had cracked chassis repaired free of charge depending on the age of their vehicles, but some say they have been treated unfairly.
Royston-based owneroperator Bob Arrowsmith says he had to pay £700 for repairs to his two-year-old 8 x 4 Constructor and lost nine days trading while the vehicle was off the road.
Leyland Daf dealer Hartwell of Oxford was unable to say how many cracked chassis it had repaired in the past year, but said that, depending on age and circumstances, repairs were carried out free.
Leyland Daf says modifications are being made to chassis on the production line this week. The company would not give details of the modifications, but did say that the rear suspension is being changed.
