Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE DEPARTMENT of Transport has circulated proposals overall height signs to be fitted in the cabs of certain lorries.

The proposals reflect DTp concern about the number of accidents in which high vehicles have struck bridge spans (CM June 16), and are intended to take effect next year.

Where a vehicle's travelling height (both vehicle and load) exceeds I2ft and it is carrying heavy engineering plant, skips, or containers, a sign would be fitted in the cab ad.vising the driver of the height of his vehicle. DTp feels that, while m bridges of under 16ft 6in ca headroom signs, drivers of • are unaware of the height their own lorry.

It also believes that 1 types of vehicle covered by proposal pose the great threat to bridges, other cc mercial vehicles being mi likely to be damaged bridges.
