IT WAS just 4.30pm on E cember 6 last year wh, William Laird drove his W( tern SMT bus into Kilmarno bus station.
There, he picked up passengers for Ayr and distr and was preparing to set , when an inspector boarded.
The inspector found o woman passenger to be wil out a ticket for which she h paid. And because of the I mistake, William Laird w sacked.

Late in April, an indust: tribunal in Glasgow heard 1 case, and last week, West( SMT was ordered to pay Laird compensation for unfair dismissal.
The tribunal's statemE read: "The bus driver w sacked for what was clain by Western SMT as deliber misappropriation of a 15p fa "William Laird, of Kilw ning, contended that he 1made an honest mistake E. claimed reinstatement, I later settled for compensat and a fair written referet from his former employer, Western SMT, Kilmarnock, the grounds that he was I fairly dismissed."
