Mr Bruce was previously assistant (road services) at the Stratford, London, terminal. John Copeland, since March managing director of Tankfreight, has been appointed managing director designate of Scottish BRS Ltd — one of the seven independent regional companies which, on September 1 1972, will replace the group's 11 Districts (CM June 23). Mr Copeland joined BRS Caledonian group in 1951, transferred to Road Services (Caledonian) Ltd in 1954, and has subsequently held a number of senior posts in the Tayforth group. Three of the present BRS district managers, K. J. Young (Scotland), J. F. Coulson (north east) and E. T. Croker (S. Wales), will help with the reorganization and will not retire before the end of the year, Desmond Savage, 42, Vauxhall's salesplanning manager, tomorrow moves to a newly created post — co-ordinator of commercial vehicle and fleet sales. Leonard E. Baxter, 36, lately general manager of Normand Commercial Vehicles Ltd, becomes truck manager, Mr Savage is responsible for all Bedford sales-related activities including factory backing to Bedford dealers and the direction and development of government, fleet and municipal business for cv and cars. The latter area remains the responsibility of the present manager of government and fleet sales, Douglas Ball. Robert H. Johnson vacates the position of cv sales manager to take over a senior management job involving control of both cv and car sales throughout a large UK region.

S. J. B. Skyrme, full-time chief executive of the National Bus company, has been appointed a member of the Scottish Transport Group. The appointment, announced by the Secretary of State for Scotland, is until December 1974. Peter McGrath, 40, has been appointed National Freight Corporation comptroller and will be taking up this appointment early in August. The post has been covered by H. E. Osborn since his appointment as vice-chairman, executive. Mr McGrath is currently controller of corporate finance at the British Railways Board, which he joined in 1969.

George Fell, 38, who joined Powell Duffryn last year, becomes technical director of the Beatwaste division of PD Pollution Control Ltd which has head offices in Harrow. Peter Jarrett, 40, who transferred to Beatwaste as southern regional director last year, moves to development director. Peter Williams, 24, moves from Romford area manager to sales development executive.

J. Gentry is joining Melford Engineering Ltd, as southern service manager from Blaw Knox; P. Powell becomes northern service engineer and D. Foakes has been re-assigned to the Midlands. S. Pullen is promoted service controller based at the Melford works at Cottingham, Cambridge. Max McHardy, 25, who joined Budget Rent a Car International 18 months ago, has been appointed national van and truck manager. Mr McHardy spent several years with ICI.

OBITUARY We record with regret the death of J. W. King.

Mr King, 75, had been in public passenger transport for 44 years joining the Tyneside Tramways and Tramroads Company in 1918, he later moved to the Gateshead and District Omnibus Company and became manager in 1946, retiring in 1963.
