Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

VDINBURGH Council last week voted to apply for an increase in bus fares— despite a warning from a councillor that "municipal transport is reaching its end because we are pricing ourselves out of business".

Councillor Tom McGregor, giving the warning, moved an amendment that the proposed increases be reconsidered. He urged that the whole transport question should be examined, even to the extent of discussing it with other municipalities.

But transport committee convenor Councillor Maurice Ferry said that a fares increase was overdue. Costs were rising despite the freeze.

And the Council approved the increases by a majority of two votes, including a rise of id. on the 3d. concessionary fare; and id. on the 6d., 9d., and 1 s. fares. The four-weekly season ticket is to rise 5s. to 60s.
