Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

six-pot has served UK truck operators well since the days of the original E290 "Hummin Cummins", it won't make it past the Euro-3 emissions barrier in 2000. It's currently offered at 425, 475 and 525hp in Euro-2 guise for those traditional buyers who still want a big capacity, lazyworking diesel.

But For Euro-3, the all-electronic 15-litre Signature will assume the mantle of most powerful Cummins engine in Europe. The arrival of the ISM 440 next year will put the N14 under even greater pressure, not least because the 11-litre ISM weighs 938kg against the 14-litre's 1,272k9. Further down the weight range, Cummins is developing replacements for its B and C Series engines. The 8.3-litre C diesel will eventually be superseded by an engine fuelled by what is described as an Accumulator Pump System, operating in a similar fashion to a common rail set-up. Maximum power from the new 24valve model will be around 350hp, making it a strong competitor for lveco's soon-to-belaunched 350hp eight-litre and Oaf's latest 9.2-litre six-pot. The B Series will also be relaunched, as the ISB Echo engine, featuring its own commonrail fuel system. Although take-up of Cummins' variable torque Electronic Smart Power (ESP) engine has been small, the company says it's hoping to extend this model's appeal beyond existing distribution company customers to longdistance operators.
