• Hauliers buying HGVs from this Saturday will have another important piece of kit fitted as well as that K-reg number plate — a speed limiter.
Limiters will be fitted to all new trucks over 7.5 tonnes from 1 August: by 31 July next year nearly all HGVs over 16 tonnes will have to be retrofitted.
To prepare for this, the Vehicle Inspectorate is completing a list of more than 700 speed limiter fitment and calibration centres. They are being sponsored by the limiter manufacturers in the same way as tachograph agencies.
