Some insurance companies flatly refuse to provide insurance at any price unless the vehicle is fitted with sophisticated security equipment, especially an immobiliser. Norwich Union has a list of high-performance hatch-backs that it will not insure without such equipment being fitted: They are three times as likely to be stolen as standard models," warns the company.
