• Some former customers of the liquidated Speedwell Group have switched to Macclesfield haulier RH Stevens, owned by Reg Stevens, brother of Speedwell founder Fred Stevens.
Alan Stevens, managing director of RH Stevens and nephew of Fred, says the new business amounts to about five lorry loads a week, including trunking to Scotland. But he says Speedwell's type of work is not of great interest to the firm, which ran more than 100 vehicles, many of them tankers on international haulage. Stevens believes other Macclesfield hauliers have benefited from Speedwell's collapse.
