• Tenders have been invited by the Department of Transport from selected consultants to prepare for the 2200 million project to build a second Severn crossing.
Transport secretary Paul Charmon says: "We hope to appoint the successful consultant by early October. He will undertake the detailed investigations and consultations that are necessary in carrying this project forward.

Channon says the crossing could be built by the mid-1990s.
