• Protection for both vehicle and load is offered by Maple, which specialises in microprocessor-controlled systems tailored to suit a customer's operation.
Its computerised twin-circuit system has an automatic control unit and pushbutton key pad which uses a series of numeric codes to activate a range of security devices designed to immobilise the starter switch and protect the cab doors or windows, rear doors and cab lift.
Maple plans to extend the system — which is self-diagnostic and can be selfpowered — to protect curtained or solid sides, roof, floor and bulkhead.
It can be integrated with a two-way radio and for a retrospective analysis; Maple has recently developed a printer unit. A number of models are available including manual systems which can also be used in conjunction with Maple's Freightlock.
This pneumatically-operated shutterlocking device can be fitted underneath or inside the body and can operate from the vehicle's own air or a remote supply.
Once lacked, claims Maple, not even a fork lift can raise the door — as Placketts recently discovered when one of its drivers lost the key.
Maple also makes kingpin and park brake locks as well as a mini Freightlock for smaller CVs, powered by a concealed electro-pneumatic pump.
Among Maple's customers are the Coop and a number of major tobacco companies.
