Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Security devices are often criticised for being too expensive or too complicated for practical use on large fleets. JMF has developed a fifth-wheel clamp that is sturdy, simple, and costs 235 plus VAT.

It is made of ductile nodular cast iron and can be fitted with the padlock of the customer's choice. It clamps round the fifth-wheel pin on a semi-trailer to prevent a tractor unit from hitching up. if an attempt is made to hitch the shape of the clamp will prevent damage to the fifthwheel coupling, and the semi-trailer remains safe.

The clamp weighs 4kg, and is small enough to store behind the driver's seat JMF's fifth-wheel clamp; simple but effective protection for £35 plus VAT.

when its services are not required.

There have been several attempts to beat the clamp by unauthorised hitching and sawing off the device, but so far none have succeeded.

Most customers choose a security lock to complement the strength of the clamp but some opt for a less expensive padlock simply to prevent drivers "borrowing" semi-trailers, as is common at docks and in large fleet operations.

The latest development from the company is a drawbar security clamp to fit all sizes of drawbar couplings.
