of Gardner six-cylinder diesel engines from the company's Patricroft site in Manchester to London, following the signing of a new joint venture agreement with Bus Engineering Limited (BEL) — the troubled bus engineering subsidiary of London Regional Transport.
Under the deal, all assembly and production, as well as testing, of Gardner 6LXB, 6LXCT, 6LXDT and 6LYT will go to BEL's Chiswick factory, which has recently undergone a 25-million refurbishment programme. The Patricroft site, however, will retain its foundry and machining operations, producing all major engine components including crankcases, crankshafts, engine
