Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

JOHN WEINTHAL of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders correctly points out that he was not at the start of CM's 38-tonne round-Britain economy run. (CM July 23, page 5). The conversation reported took place with CM at Scania's hospitality suite at Silverstone.

In a telex to CM and vehicle manufacturers, Mr Weinthal denies almost all of what was attributed to him; it was either out of context or a misquotation, he days.

To give the SMMT the opportunity to put the record straight, 'we have invited the Society to advise us whether or not it will support our campaign to improve the industry's image and if so to what extent.

We are preparing a presentation to be shown to the SMMT and its individual members, the trade associations and the trade unions. The extent of the campaign will depend on the support we are promised.
