Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I MUST SET the record straight regarding the forthcoming Bedford 12-metre coach chassis (CMJuly 2). This all-new chassis will not be available until late 1984, and since the project is in the design stages it is clearly much too early to comment in any detail regarding the final specification — especially regarding the choice of engine and transmission.

However, I can confirm at this stage that the new chassis will feature air suspension as standard.

Contrary to your report, can I make it clear this is an entirely new chassis design and not an "extended version of the 11metre YNT with turbocharged 500-Series engine and ZF gearbox".

The new chassis will complement the existing range of eight to 11-metre Y-Series chassis, which we will continue to manufacture.

Your reference to the "500" engine is particularly confusing. In February 1980, this Series ceased production, superseded by an entirely new Bedford engine range — the 8.2-litre Blue Series diesels. This new series resulted from the development of a 208bhp turbocharged diesel for the TM 4-4 military truck. Apart from a similar cubic capacity the Blue Series has virtually nothing in common with the old "500" engine.

The turbocharged 8.2-litre Blue Series made its debut as a commercial vehicle power unit in YNT, when launched at the 1980 UK Motor Show!

But as I said in my opening remarks, the final choice on engine and transmission for the new 12-metre coach chassis, has yet to be taken.
