Speed bumps

SPEEDS, drops and traffic flow also fell following the experimental laying of road humps in Oxford last year.

The nine humps, each 12ft long and 4in high, were installed by Transport and Road Research Laboratory and were the first in the country. It is now hoped to instal speed bumps at other sites throughout the country.

Road works

A TENDER of more than £3 million has keen accepted from Dowsett Engineering Construction for the building of the three-mile Little Easton to Holbrook improvement of A61 in Derbyshire.

Work will start soon as it is expected to take two years. The new road will replace the present A61 trunk road west of Breadsall to the north of Coxbench.

Coventry CMLDoY

MORE than 100 competitors battled it out at Coventry last week for a place in the CMLDoY finals.

' Overall winner was P. Wickett, of B.P. Oil. The following won their classes. Class A; P. Martin, Post Office, 42 penalties: Class B; L. Hollis, BRS Birmingham, 35: Class C; D. Colkin, Bowater Scott, 39: Class D; R. E. Jones, Shell UK 38.

Class E; A. Wells, Triumph Motors, 110: Class F; R. Addlesee, Texaco Ltd, 42: Class G; R. Young, Chrysler UK, 117: Class H; P. Wickett, BP Oil, 36.

Breakdown recovery

A 24-HOUR heavy recovery breakdown service has been started by the Arlington Motor Company from its new branch at High Road, Chadwell Heath.

It will cover the East End of London, Al2, A13, A127 and the Dartford Tunnel.
