• Announcing a profit before interest and taxation' of £8.29m by Vauxhall Motors Ltd in the first half of 1971 (compared with a loss of £1.09m in the same period last year), the company's chairman and managing director, Mr A. D. Rhea, said that the total Bedford sales, at 71,210, were a record for any January-June period in the firm's history, as was the number of commercial vehicles exported-34,642. In the same six-month period, he added, while industry sales of commercial vehicles went down by 6.8 per cent, Bedford registrations rose by 23.9 per cent.
