project in Stevenage New Town will be introduced, which includes an intensified service on one route, employing buses in a special yellow and blue livery, in an effort to attract more passengers back from private cars.
The project is being financed jointly by the Department of the Environment and Stevenage Development Corporation, and yesterday Mr Eldon Griffiths, Parliamentary Under-Secretary with special responsibility for transport, DoE, was due to visit the town for a preview of the new service.
London Country Bus Services Ltd is the operator providing the service, and five of the London Transport designed SM class o-m-o buses (AEC Swifts with 10 metre MCW bodies), together with two Metro-Scania single-deckers ordered on behalf of Stevenage DC, all painted in the new livery, are to be employed.
