• The Swansea-based South Wales Transport Co Ltd, which has had to cancel orders for new buses for reasons of economy, has taken delivery of the first four of 17 second-hand coaches which are being modified for one-man operation, and will replace older vehicles in the fleet.

About 12 years old, the coaches formerly belonged to Royal Blue Express, owned by Western National, another NBC operator, which is sharing with South Wales

the job of converting the vehicles. This includes the adaptation of the driver's cab, installation of driver-controlled motorized front entrance doors and the fitting of new seats, Mr F. A. J. Woodworth, general manager of South Wales, said last week that this was one of the measures they were taking to overcome problems arising from their having to cancel orders for new vehicles.
