COMMENTING upon a prosecution ...which came before him at Bradford City Police Court, last week, the Stipendiary Magistrate, Dr. F. J. O. Coddington, said: "This is the first case of its kind in the city, and it has been brought to emphasize the fact that people should use common sense and not waste petrol to fetch more petrol."

It was stated by the prosecution that a motorvan had travelled 24 miles in fetching petrol from a garage, although there was another garage within 200 yds. of the premises of the defendant firm. The latter were fined 20s, for permitting motor fuel to be used without all reasonable economy. An apprentice who drove the van and a foreman in the firm's employ were both bound over for a year.

COAL-DELIVERY -ZONING SCHEME FOR LEEDS

CONCENTRATION of coal deliveries 1k-din the Leeds area, to effect savings in man-power, petrol and rubber, is now practically completed, states the Leeds and District Coal Distributors' Association. This has been achieved with little dislocation to the public, relatively few consumers having had to be compulsorily transferred.

The city is now ,zoned for delivery purposes and, although the consumer is restrictal to obtaining his supplies from a supply group allotted to his particular area, there are still sufficient distributors in each group to ensure that the customer has some freedom in his selection. It is emphasized that the customer can change Ms source of supply only by permission and at the discretion of the Local Fuel Overseer.

DON'T ASK THE SHOPKEEPER FOR PAPER

THE restrictions on the short-distance delivery of goods from shops involSes the carriage of many articles by hand. Shopkeepers may not supply *paper or bags for goods which need not be wrapped, but there is a considerable shortage of paper bags for fruit, cereals, etc. Shoppers should take their own equipment for this purpose and thus save paper.

LIVERPOOL ASSOCIATION AND THE PERRY REPORT

THIS comment is made by the Liver' pool Cart and Motor Owners Association on the Road Transport Organization joint Conference :—" The fact that our National Federation (National Road Transport Employers Federation) comprises a number of local independent and autonomous associations has presented some difficulty in bringing such associations into line with the reorganization plans. The Federation organizations have, however, now accepted the Perry Report, in principle, except in three cases (Liverpool, Bolton and Sheffield Aslociations) with which negotiations are now proceeding."
