An Independent Bus Company Shortly to Commission for Service in London a Leyland Titan 52-seater.

LONDONERS and visitors to our. capital are shortly to see in service in the Metropolitan area the first Leyland Titan bus to be approved by Scotland Yard. A handsome body, which is finished externally in chocolate,

primrose and gold (the standard colteer scheme of the operator), has been constructed by that well-known NorthLondon bodybuilder, Christopher Dodson, Ltd., of Cobbold Road, Willesden, London, N.W.10. The bus, a 52-seater

bus, is to be operated by the Chocolate Express Omnibus Co., Ltd., the headquarters of which are at 34, EthelburgaStreet, London, S.W.11, and it is interesting to note that this concern was the first independent bus undertaking in London to be founded after the war, being established in 1922.

The overall length of the vehicle is 26 ft., the overall height 14 ft. 2 ins., whilst the width between extreme points is 7 ft. 6 ins. The comfort of the driver has been studied, for a door is provided on the off side of his cab and he is protected from inclement weather by a staggered twopiece windscreen. The driver's seat is of the bucket type and ample space is provided in his compartment.

The rear platform of the vehicle is extremely large, its Zeight being only

1 ft. 3 ins, from the ground. All the transverse seats in the vehicle have shaped, sprung becks, and the mean distance from the floor level to the top of the seat squab is only 1 ft. 6 ins. The upholstery of all the seats is carried out in moquette of a pleasing design, the chief colour being pale blue.

In the lower saloon longitudinal scats are employed over the wheel-arches, and in this compartment 24 people can be accommodated. The minimum distance between the back of one transverse seat and that of the one directly in front is 2 ft. 3ins. The panels in the interior of both saloons are carried out in red embossed Sundeala. The lower deck is lighted by means of ten roof lamps and ventilation is effected through the medium of six drop windows, above which are situated ventilators.
