Two useful publications issued recently by the Automobile Association, Fanura House, New Coventry Street, London, W.1, are the A.A. Service Map of France showing the actual condition of the roads under four classifications, A.A. hotels, etc., which is issued free of charge to members of the Association, and a Motoring Guide to Europe, which is the fourth edition of "Europa Touring," the official European Touring Guide of the Alliance Internationale de Tourisme. This book describes 18 European countries, is written in English, French and German and contains over 130 maps and plans, also a gazetteer giving the principal European cities and towns. It is issued to A.A. members at the special price of 102.

Bus Services Proposed for Chester.

The last stage has been reached in the controversy•which has been agitating public opinion in Chester for some

years, as to whether motorbuses shall supersede electric trams. The tramway committee has now put forward a recommendation to the following effect ;—(1) That motorbus services be inaugurated to Saltney, Littleton and Christleton, and from Chester General Railway Station to Stone Bridge ; (2) that the consent be obtained of thd Minister of Transport and of the local authorities of the districts along the routes, without the city, over which the proposed bus services would pass ; (3) that tenders be invited by advertise

The Tyres on the New London General Cab.

We have been asked by Euglebert Tyres, Ltd., 162, Gt. Portland Street, London, W.1, to point out that the standard tyre equipment on the London General taxicab is of Englebert make and that the dimensions of the low-pressure tyres employed are 29 ins. by 5 ins.

An Amicable Agreement.

A provisional agreement has been reached between the parliamentary committee of the Newcastle Corporation and the Tyneside Tramways and Tramroads Co., Ltd., whereby the corporation will take over the company's routes between Henry Street, Gosforth, and Gosforth Park, and Lower Gosforth and Watlseml, and, in return, will assist the company to secure powers to operate motorbuses, sanction for which it is now attempting to obtain.

• Another proposal is that the company and the local authority will provide joint bus services, on a mileage basis, between Wallsend and a suitable terminal point in Newcastle, and between Newcastle and North Shields, on an equal basis.

A London Operator Appeals to the Ministry.

An appeal has been lodged by Messrs. George Ewer and Co. with the Ministry of Transport against the refusal of the Bournemouth Corporation to grant licences to ply for hire with two motor coaches in connection with a service between Bournemouth and London.

Lancashire Licensing—A Bill to be Framed.

Referring to the paragraph on page 813 of our issue for last week, representatives of 137 public authorities in Lancashire attended the conference convened by the Lancashire County Council to consider the need for some alteration in the law relating to the control and regulation of public vehicles. It was decided to appoint ivcommittee representing the -county council, county boroughs, non-county boroughs, urban and rural districts in Lancashire to consider and settle the provisions of a Bill to be promoted in Parliament for co-ordinating regulation of public-service vehicles, with power to Confer with the appropriate Government Department. Sir George Etherington said there were probably 100 licensing authorities in Lancashire exercising their functions in local areas but having no statutory powers to coordinate their duties.
