• Supermarkets are questioning the continued use of thirdparty hauliers, according to a survey by the Institute of Grocery Distribution.
The report, Retail Distribution Profiles 1991, claims that, although supermarket groups spend twice as much on
third-party transport as on ownaccount transport, two-thirds are considering reverting to own-account operation which would hit small hauliers.
However, Tesco denies that a ninth composite depot, due to open next year, will abandon individual hauliers.
