Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE HAULAGE industry has been enjoying some additional business as a result of the continuing dispute between British Rail and the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen.

A Freight Transport Association spokesman told CM that, as long as the present pattern of strikes continues, most customers will be able to reschedule most of their needs.

"The longer the strikes go on, the more difficult it will become at the margin," he added.

A Road Haulage Association spokesman suggested that haulage could, in fact, take on all of the freight carried by BR.

He said that previous disputes on the railways have led to "major traffic gains" on the part of hauliers.
