Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HE LATEST in the crop of new oach chassis to be available in Htain from October is the Scaia K-Series, reports NOEL MIER.

It will be shown for the first me at next month's Amsteram Motor Show.

The K-Series rear-engined 3nge will replace the present ,R116 and BR86 rear-engined nits, which were not sold in ;ritain.

The new chassis, which will be vailable in Britain by October, is lesigned for incorporation into he design of integral coaches nd can be delivered in the form if two modules, a rear section omplete with engine and transnission and a front section cornilete with driver's instrument nel.

Alternatively, the chassis is mailable in short-wheelbase orm for separation before inteIra' construction or with a fixed yheelbase for conventional )ody on chassis building.

The unsplit frame has a 6m 19.7ft) wheelbase and enables a ow floor height throughout the 'Ade.

Both air suspension and steel eaf springs are available to neet different requirements.

The air suspension option is ikely to be most popular in 3ritain and consists of two .olling-type air bellows on the ront axle and four on the rear. ieaction rods take care of longiudinal and transverse forces. )ouble-acting telescopic hyiraulic shock absorbers are itted.

Anti-roll bars are available as

an option and consist of a Ushaped torsion-spring mounted in rubber bushes at the chassis frame and axle.

Scania is offering two engine options on its K type. The K82 will be powered by the new Scania DSi8 intercooled and turbocharged eight-litre engine which is rated to produce 170kW (231 bhp) at 2,4 0Orpm and 815Nm (601 Ibft) torque at the same speed.

The K112 has the bigger turbocharged DS11 engine rated to produce 224kW (305bhp) at 2,000rpm and 1,235Nm (910 lbft) torque. Both options are available with Scania's G776 fully synchromesh gearbox as standard and options include the GS771 ten-speed unit or fully automatic four-speed unit.

Other features of the chassis include an adjustable steering column and a newly designed facia complete with clock, voltmeter, tachometer and warning lights for air cleaner and coolant level. A 315-litre (69.3gal) fuel tank is fitted as standard.

Noprices or dealer set-up have yet been announced although the models will be marketed by Scania (GB) and will be priced "competitively."
