The Patrol's 2.8-litre single ohc etrol engine comes from atsun's 280C and 280ZX car Inge and is rated at 89.5kW 20bhp) DIN at 3,600rpm and avelops maximum torque of 0 3 Nm (1 5 Olbft) DIN at ,80Orpm.

Maximum power and torque of the 3.25-litre diesel unit are respectively 71kW (95bhp) DIN at 3,600rpm and 217Nm (160Ibft) DIN at 1,800rpm.

The 2.95m (116in) wheelbase Patrol Estate has cloth covered seats and carpets while vinyl floor and seat covers are used in the 2.35m (92.5in) wheelbase Hardtop model. The latter's rear seat can be folded forward to enlarge the load carrying area. With the seat in place there is room for five people (including driver) in the vehicle.

Estate versions have conventional, fixed front and rear seats and an additional bench seat normally stowed against the back of the rear seat. With all these seats in place this vehicle can carry several people.

Standard equipment in the Patrol Estate includes a pushbutton radio, a clock and an unusually comprehensive toolkit containing, for example, a grease gun and a tyre pressure gauge.
