• Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, sitting in Leeds, on Thursday of last week, refused an application by Shaheen Express, of Bradford, to operate a service between Bradford and Karachi at a fare of £35. The proposed service was claimed to be for the benefit of the Pakistani community in the West Riding.
Mr. G. Gostick said that the firm was managed by two brothers who would operate the service from Bradford to Karachi, calling at major cities in West Pakistan. Buses would travel via MI to Dover and make the journey through Belgium, West Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Turkey, Persia and Afghanistan. The fare for adults would be £35 and £20 for children, exclusive of ferry charges.
Mr. P. C. Bhola, a Bradford shopkeeper. opposed the application. Mr. Bhola was granted a licence last October to run a bus service from Bradford to New Delhi.
Mr. Gostick claimed Mr. Bhola could not run a service to Pakistan because he would be unable to obtain the necessary visa.
The chairman of the Commissioners, Maj-Gen. Sir John Potter, refusing the application, said it would be open for the applicant to apply again when the result of Mr. Bhola's service was known, and when the Commissioners would be in a better position to assess the possible need.
