I N connection with the laying of

340 miles of 10-in, pipeline from Ahwas to Azna—a project of the National Iranian Oil Co,--a number of mobile darkrooms will be used. One of their main purposeswill be to process gamma-radiographs of circumferential butt welds which can be done On site at a rate Of 135 a day.

A Multiwheeler step-framed fourwheeled trailer chassis is used as a basis of each laboratory, the body dimensions of which are 22 ft. by 7 ft, 6 in. The bodies were fabricated by Rollalogg, Ltd.. to the design of Pilgrim Mobile Units, Ltd., Ringwood, Hants, who equipped and supplied the outfits.

The latest type of Kodak processing unit is installed, the water jacket round the tanks being maintained at the correct tunperature by a thermostatically controlled heater or a Frigidaire cooling attachment. Other equipment in the darkroom includes workbenches, drying cabinet and racks.

A large water tank is carried in the services department. the water •being

pre-cooled by a wetted felt-lining evaporation device, In the darkroom is a header tank which supplies water to the sink and rinsing tank.

Power and lighting are obtained from a Lyon 4.5-kW. 230-v. generator driven

by a Petter air-cooled petrol engine, the whole unit being arranged on Silentbloc anti-vibration mountings.

The outfits were built to the order of Costain-John Brown, Ltd.. and Welding Supervision, Ltd.
