• Volvo Global Trucks recorded an 11% drop in orders for the first seven months of the year but its Renault VI subsidiary bucked the recent trend with a 3% rise.
The much-predicted recession currently winging its way to Europe from the US seems to be confirmed by Volvo Global Trucks, whose US January-July sales were down 38% on last year.
Renault Trucks' market is dominated by western European sales, which rose 542 to 34,051. The report highlights a 20% increase in Kerax sales and a 16% increase for the Midlum range. Renault Trucks' UK registrations rose 30% to 2,399 according to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (CM16-22 Aug).
Volvo Truck Corporation recorded a 19% drop of deliv
ered vehicles to 39,072 compared with the same period last year. In Western Europe sales fell 14% to 21, 994; its US operation suffered a 41% nose dive. In the UK Volvo Truck sales are neck and neck with last year's registrations, recording 3,961 for the first seven months of 2001.
