Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Transfrigoroute, the international reefer operators' organisation, will formally adopt a code of conduct, written by its UK member association, at its annual conference which begins on 11 September.

The code includes standards for driver training and coldchain procedure and was agreed by Transfrigoroute (UK)'s sister bodies at a meeting in Budapest in April. It was originally devised by Transfrigoroute (UK) six years ago.

UK chairman Graham Eames will be pushing for a change to the law on maximum-length reefer vehicles. He says the 16.5m rule allows 26 pallets to be loaded, but does not leave enough room for proper air circulation. Because of the thickness of reefer walls, pallets are packed too tightly and hotspots develop, he says. He wants the crucial measurement to be from kingpin to rear of load space rather than the back of the vehicle itself.

The three-day conference, at Stratford-upon-Avon, is the first to be held in the UK. Delegates will also discuss ways of eliminating CFCs from reefer units.

Transfi-igoroute has 28 member organisations, mostly from Europe, though some are from Africa and South America.
