• East German manufacturer IFA has scrapped production of its W50 and W60 trucks fitted with Mercedes-Benz LN2 cabs. Demand has collapsed now that East German transport companies have access to technology from the West. Assembly of the LN2 range at WA's Ludwigsfelde plant will begin by 1991.
Meanwhile, up to 500 WA workers are being offered jobs in Mercedes-Benz car and commercial vehicle factories in West Germany. A further 300 East German employees may later transfer to MercedesBenz's Worth plant.
0 The West German post office has taken delivery of the last of an order for 110 quiet Iveco Magirus 80.13A 7.5tonners built to comply with low-noise regulations near hospitals and homes. Most of the vans are Kogel-bodied Iveco Magiruses, with 98kW (131hp) turbocharged engines. To achieve the noise limit of 78dB(A), the engine has been fully shrouded.
