The National Bus Company's vehicle development unit, based in Birmingham, will be closing down at the end of September.
The unit was set up in 1983 for the development and improvement of existing buses and coaches in the NBC fleet and has also undertaken work for organisations outside the Group. One of its major contributions has been the technical input to new vehicle specifications.
Engineers from NBC vehicle development unit have had a significant influence on the development of minibuses to suit intensive bus operation, including supervising the building of about 20 different prototypes. Other activities have included supplier quality assurance, design concept studies and a variety of test programmes.
