• Between June and September 1986 special permission is required from the Federal Transport Minister for roadworks to be carried out on motorways. The number of roadworks sites approved in West Germany in this period has been reduced from 190 to 130. A further strategy to keep traffic moving in the holiday period is a Saturday ban on lorries over 7.3 tonnes on some particularly congested routes. Verkehrs-Rundschau, July 19.
