Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Washington, County Durham, based Weightwise, has developed a new on-board axle weighing system called Digitell. The equipment is fitted to the front axle of an artic unit and gives a digital read-out in the cab of the front axle weights plus the total load imposed on the fifth-wheel.

Digitell-equipped vehicles can obtain front and drive axle and bogie weights when weighed on a conventional plate weighbridge.

Features include a strain gauge bolted to the front axle, an Inclinometer on the chassis, fuel tank sensor, security alarm, digital clock and a micro-processor controlled self-checking calibration unit to each individual vehicle.

The inclinometer ensures the unit compensates for sloping surfaces or variations in tyre pressures. and Digitell also takes into account the amount of fuel the vehicle is carrying. Price is around £1,000 per vehicle. It will initially be fitted by Jost, the fifthwheel manufacturers.
