Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN HIS LETTER to Commercial Motor, Mr Evans (managing director of Yewpalm) stressed that the Automobile Association tests on tyre sealants were unfair because less than one per cent of punctures are caused by nails of 5mm diameter.

When testing any products for use by the motorist, the

AA pays particular attention 1 the claims by the manufai turers. As OKO claims that r product will seal most holes i. to 5mm diameter we consider€ it not only fair but essential test to that limit. If Mr Evar considers this to be excessiN then he should reduce tlclaims made for the product.

He also complains that sample of five tests was adequate but, bearing in mir that each puncture was of tt most simple type, a failure ra of two out of five for OKO and overall failure of "14 in 24 tes on six products, surely speal for itself.

The AA report, as publishe was a summary of a considE able amount of information, b the results are indisputable.

Contrary to what Mr Eva says, we did not say that SE lants were dangerous but th there are circumstances which "they [the sealants] ca not be relied on and may wi make the vehicle dangerous drive."

It is an indisputable fact if loss of pressure is a cause of la of control and our primary cc cern for the sealants was thi ability to prevent loss of prei ure. We cannot support P Evans' statement that they ail valuable safety aid when experienced an overall failu rate of 58 per cent.
