• London Transport introduced emergency measures on Monday to reduce as much as possible the effect on Watford area bus services of the serious staff shortage at Garston garage.
A spokesman for LTB stated: "In spite of vigorous efforts to recruit more staff the garage is now 32 drivers and 26 conductors below strength and local routes are being badly hit by haphazard, last-minute cancellations made because there are no staff available to man the buses.
"We have therefore decided to concentrate our available resources on running less frequent but more reliable services."
