• The Traders Road Transport Association has told the Ministry of Transport that the proposed plates for goods vehicles under the plating and testing scheme are too flimsy.
Specimens of the 6in. by 4in. plates which have been produced are in very thin plastics and TRTA doubt their durability when fitted on commercial vehicles.
Operator associations had earlier withdrawn their request for metal plates on the Ministry's assurance that the plastic substitutes would be thick and tough.
