Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LAST MINUTE withdrawals by applicants who asked for cases to be re-listed because of unpreparedness were causing great inconvenience, and unless there were an improvement some action would have to be taken.

This was stated by Mr. J. R. Lindsay, North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, at Manchester last week, when two applicants out of four listed appeared in court and a. further seven had asked for a postponement.

Mr. J. A. 1Dunkerley, for the Road Haulage Association, 'said that lastminute deletions were 'to be deplored, and steps would be taken to publicize Mr. Lindsay's remarks.

Mark McGrath, Ltd., Droylsden, sought to renew a B licence for six vehicles but did not appear. The Authority renewed the licence for four vehicles, commenting that since Tune last year two of them had not been licensed.

NO APPLICANTS IN COURT

WHEN Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, entered his court on Tuesday, he found no applicants there. Only the legal representative and witnesses of the British Transport Commission were present. A number of cases had been adjourned and granted through agreement with the road-rail negotiating committee.

The only case which remained active was that of Messrs. Brace and Prosser, who sought an A licence for two vehicles to.carry-goods within 180 miles. Mr. Nelson said that if the applicants did not attend during the day he would refuse the application, but if they did so, the case would be adjourned. He did not think it was fair to keep the objectors waiting.
