THE National Standing Joint

Coin

nittee on Education for Road Transport Operation, which was set up by representatives of leading organizations in the road transport industry, has drawn up a scheme of education and the Royal Society of Arts has agreed to hold examinations in the subjects. The intention is to give a good overall knowlege of the industry, including such matters as the compilafion of schedules, operation of vehicles, assessment of rates, control of receipts and expenses, and the working of petrol and

oil engines and electric motors. • There are four subjects to be taken in three stages, but it is not expected that students will normally take more than three out of the four subjects in

each stage. The subjects and stages are as follow:--First and Second Years: Road transport operation (passenger); road transport operation (goods); elements of road transport engineering; road transport accounts and statistics. Third Year: Road transport operation (passenger); road transport operation (goods); road transport accounts and statistics; economics applied to road transport.

Examinations in these subjects are held at the end of the courses (about Easter, 1947) by the Royal Society of Arts.

In the London and Home Counties Area an educational advisory committee has been set up, representing road-transport employers and employees, and educational authorities.

Provided .that sufficient applications be received from intending students, the appropriate local education authorities will probably open evening classes at Catford Commercial Institute. City of London College, Croydon Polytechnic, Ealing Technical College, +Guildford County Technical College, Luton Technical College, Medway Technical College, Mid-Essex Fechniml College and School of krt, NorthWestern Polytechnic, and South-West Essex Technical College and School of Art.

Early application for enrolment • should be made at the Institutes.
