DUE entirely to the popularity of the trolleybuses, Derby Corporation's transport department, last year, made a net profit of 2.8,656, to which the trolleybuses contributed 210,876. The petrol buses, however, worked at a loss of £2,007, and the tramways at a deficit of £213.
The gross trading profit, at £41,427, constituted a record. The bulk of the capital expenditure of £47,019, last year, was incurred in connection with the development of the trolleytnis system, but £4,43S was expended on motorbuses. The undertaking carried 33,783,291 passengers for a distance of 3,035,929 miles. During the past year the corporation ran 66 trolleybuses and 41 motorbuses.

THE favourable results of the opera1 tion of Middlesbrough Corporation's transport department, last year, under the general managership of Mr. Frank Lyth.goe, A.M.Inst.T., have enabled concessions to be granted to passengers.
The time for the issue of workmen's tickets has been extended to 9 a.m., and four-journey tickets have been introduced, with which passengers may travel a total distance of 12 miles for 6d. Certain other fares have been reduced, and cheap rates offered to shift workers, Mr. Lythgoe's proposals were accepted in their entirety by the committee.
FOURTH BID SUCCEEDS.
THE Eastern Counties Omnibus Co., Ltd., has taken over Messrs. Shaw's Bus Service, and new services have been put into operation. Mr. E. Shaw has, for over 10 years, run a service between Peterborough and Maxey. Buses now operate to Market Deeging, Tallington, Bourne and Stamford, via Helpston or Maxey, at fairly frequent intervals.
Some years ago the company negotiated on three occasions with Mr. Shaw for the taking over of his service, but the overtures never went beyond the preliminary stages.
