Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'A recent report of the Warwick County Council states that during the year ended March 31st last, 39,692. motor vehicles (an increase of 19 per cent. on 1926) and 1,920 horse-drawn vehicles (a decrease of 24 per cent.) were licensed, whilst 24,578 drivers' licences were issued, an increase of 11. per cent. over the previous year The total revenue from all sources was £193,360, an increase of 12 per cent. It is stated that these increases are not so pronounced as compared with those of 1926 over 1925 and previous years, the percentage of increase in.cash being the smallest during the past five years, the figures beino' as follow :-1927, 12 per cent.; 1926, 18 per cent. ; 1925, 15 per cent. ; 1924, 14 per cent. ; and 1923, 16 per cent.

It is stated that the decline is largely due to the big increase of tax payable for commercial and hackney vehicles.

Bus Stands in Durham.

The municipal authorities of Durham City, who have for some time been engaged in investigating methods of reducing traffic congestion and of providing adequate standage accommodation for the large number of omnibuses running to and from the city, have decided to purchase the greater part of Waddington Street—the central stand—with a view to ensuring adequate terminal points for vehicles of this type.

The Tractor Market in Spain.

A large increase was shown in the imports of motor-driven machinery in'to Spain last year. This classification includes tractors, and the United States furnished the bulk of the imports of this class. The total value of the imports amounted to 1,208,044 pesetas, of which sum the share of the United States was 1,229,895 pesetas. The total for 1926 was more than four times as great as in 1025, whilst purchases from the United States were seven times us large as in 1925. These figures show that American tractors practically dominate the Spanish market. The imports consisted chiefly of light wheel-type tractors, which are used both for agricultural and industrial purposes. Incidentally, the growing use of tractors has created a demand for tractor implements. At present there is•little effective competi tion from Great Britain, France and Germany, although a few years ago these countries had a fair share of the trade.

Taximeters on London Cabs.

Our readers will remember that about four months ago the Home Secretary made an Order prescribing a new scale of fares for taxicabs in London, and this took effect on May 1st. At that time it was arranged that taximeters to record the revised scale of charges should be installed on vehicles by September 1st, but it is now announced that the date has been altered to November 1st.
