Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Not in the UK.

I LOGGED on to www.road transport.com and saw a story about SETPOS wanting UK truckstop areas to register ('SETPOS website calls for more data on truck parks across Europe'. CM 2 April).

I realised they meant secure truck parking and I almost fell off my chair. When I checked the date. I guessed you meant to include this in your 'April Fool' edition.

There are no secure truck parks in the UK. There are few with physical barriers. And I doubt the word secure would he considered by most in reference to them.

At my last company, we were issued with a secure parking list. those places that had been checked out by the sales director or fleet manager. I used to look forward to seeing the improvements and having a giggle. A truck park in its best form would be somewhere such as Geiselwind, Kruft or Rheinbollen in Germany.

The French have recently built some very good places linked to the autoroutes, and allowing payment by card ortag. Meanwhile, we're left with 15 rutted lay-bys on the A2 with an unlit Bulgarian trailer poking out on to the road.

At least we can see that the European Commission funding is going towards a worthwhile cause.

Now where did I put that study I did on the Great Auk? It will be of more use to truck drivers, Malcolm Stockill
