• North East LA Frederick Whalley acted perversely and breached natural justice when granting John Dee Limited an 0-licence, the Road Haulage Association told the Thnsport Tribunal in London on lliesday.
The RHA was objecting to the licence on the grounds that the company was not a fit person, of good repute or of appropriate financial standing due to its directors' involvement with the failed John Dee Group.
For the RHA, Stephen Kirkbright argued that after the LA had concluded the inquiry in December he had invited directors John Davison and Peter Newton to his chambers. That meeting, in the absence of the RHA, was contrary to natural justice, said Kirkbright.
The John Dee Group crashed last year owing millions of pounds to small hauliers. The case continues.
