Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

It is expected that at least 200 young people will start training as professional heavy goods drivers by September 1976 at the latest. They will be recruited from among those leaving school at Easter and July.

The Young Driver Scheme was launched last year, and increasing numbers of youngsters will have the opportunity to follow a career in transport with the knowledge that they will be properly trained and educated.

The National Joint Training Committee, which administers the scheme, is now contacting employers throughout the UK, making arrangements for the summer intake.

The scheme is recognised by the Training Services Agency as meeting the Government's requirements for the training of school leavers. This is of considerable benefit to employers in the initial and most costly stage of training since grant support from both central funds and Industrial Training Boards is available.

Considerable assistance has been provided by the RTITB in administering and monitoring the scheme, and the National Joint Training Committee has asked for this help to continue. Very full details of the scheme, giving guidance to employers, and intending employees are available from the RHA, PTA and the RTITB.

VICTOR CLEMENTS, The National Joint Training Committee for Young HGV Drivers.
