NUMBERS of men enrolling with the BRS training centre at Staines for hgv licence training are up on last year despite expectations that the numbers would go down with the economic situation.
BRS says that 400 men took courses last year including men who were working in industry and wanted to change their jobs; the men varied from factory workers to drivers wanting to qualify for heavier classes of licence.
The centre was originally set up to provide BRS with trained drivers but it has since made the facilities available to the whole of the haulage industry.
Courses offered at the centre range from one-day familiarisation courses for new types of vehicles to the full 15-day class one hgv course for beginners. There are also courses for forklift truck drivers.
