Versatile Crane.

AMANUALLY operated hydraulic crane which can he used on vehicles and is also adaptable for use in workshops is 'now being marketed by The Equipment and Engineering Co. Ltd. The crane is called the Nor-Vac Universal Crane 1163 and has a maximum capacity of I ton. The body, which carries the hydraulic ram and jib, is mounted on a trunnion which fits into a socket that can be fixed to the floor of the vehicle. Extra sockets can be obtained, so allowing the unit to be used at different locations. In a fleet where loading equipment is only intermittently used, one unit can be shared between a number of vehicles each having a socket fitted in its floor. The trunnion can be locked if required so that the crane cannot leave its proper position—but it does not rotate in the socket, the superstructure being pivoted to the trunnion and able to slew through 360. When not in use, the jib folds down against the body of the crane and is raised by hand to the working position. Only when the load. is .hooked on to the jib does the hand pump need to be operated to raise it. The pumping handle can be located in six different positions on . either side of the crane.

Net weight of the Nor-Vac 1163 is only 165 lb. and the jib has an extendible section. The full load of one ton can be raised in the closed position' (radius' is 3 ft. 3in.), whilst in the extended position (radius 4 ft. If in.) the maximum load that can be applied is 10 cwt. Lowering can be controlled by foot or hand and an automatic safety lock prevents overloading. Concessionaires: The Equipment and Engineering Co.' Ltd., 18 Charlotte Rd.., London, EC2.
