Albions for Danish Bacon : The Leyland Motor Corporation has received a £140,000 contract from the Danish Bacon Factories Export Association for 70 Albion Chieftain tractive units to be used in conjunction with 400 refrigerated van semi-trailers supplied by the Pressed Steel Co. BMC's Millionth : The British Motor Corporation's post-war exports to Europe have just passed the million mark, and the millionth vehicle—a Mini—is now on its way to Sweden. BMC (Sweden) will present it to the Swedish appeal for handicapped children, The total includes 220.000 commercial vehicles, 50.000 Nuffield tractors and 730,000 cars. The vehicles have earned £420m. in foreign currency for Britain and represent 27 per cent of BMC's total world exports of nearly 3.600,000 units.

M6 Extension in Westmorland : The route of a further 21 miles of M6 in Westmorland has been fixed. the Minister of Transport having made a scheme for the section between Killington Reservoir, near Sedbergh, and Hackthorpe, just south of Penrith, where it will join the proposed Penrith by-pass, the route of which was fixed last year. The new motorway will provide an alternative to the difficult and sometimes hazardous A6 route over Shap Fell.

Blackpool-Preston Road Scheme: Work will start shortly on a 0,180,000 scheme to relieve the heavy congestion on the Blackpool-Preston trunk road (A583) in Preston, Lancs. The scheme involves the widening of Watery Lane, close to Preston Docks, for a length of 950 yd. from West Strand to its junction with Pedders Lane, and the construction of a new road 2.800 yd. long across an area of peat to connect via slip roads with the existing trunk road at Old Lea Hall, Lea.
