A CALL for the introduction of legislation restricting C-licensed vehicles to operating within a 25,mile radius from base "in the interest of national economy" is to come before the annual conference of the Transport Salaried Staff -Association at Eastbourne next month. The proposition comes from the Merseyside road haulage branch. which also calls for an end to the automatic granting of C licences.
Another resolution, from Guildford, demands that the railways should enforce their position of being no longer com mon carriers. It suggests that where firms hand the " cream " of their traffic toroad hauliers the 'Railways Board should refuse to accept the "rubbish Glasgow Southern wants the Minister of 'fransport to issue a directive to all natipnalized industries and government departments to the effect that the maxiMum use should •be made of ways for the conveyance of new material, manufactured . products, and* personnel where the charges are met from public funds. Where the use of road transport is considered more suitable only BRS vehicles or those of the holding companies should be utilized.
