Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WHAT is the best length for a semi-trailer for Continental work under the new C. and U. regulations? R. A. Dyson and Co. Ltd. believe that operators may virtually standardize on 10 metres (32 ft. 6 in.) for TIR trailers, as this is the length which is being specified in the great majority of cases at present. For Continental work, ferry charges on a size basis add a further complication in arriving at the best compromise.

The Dyson TIR semi-trailer seen on the right is a 10-metre outfit for Smiths of Eccles Ltd. to run at 30-ton-g.t.w. rating. It has DNR suspension, l5 in by 7 in. S-cam brakes, a three-line air-pressure system and 9.00-20 12-ply tyres. The tilt is in Forlitex roof sheet.

Orders for Dyson TIR models have called for lengths varying from 27 ft. to 34 ft.
